Minutes of the Sixth Annual General Meeting held on 10th

January 2012 @7.00pm at The Life Centre, Romiley.

Present: -Jill & Louis Lince, Maureen Puckett, Beryl & Alan Smith, Margaret McLay, Cllr Syd Lloyd & Cllr Hazel Lees.

  1. In the absence of The Chair (Tracey Adams) Cllr Hazel Lees welcomed all present and read out the notice of the meeting.

Apologies – Tracey Adams, Lisa Brumwell, John Ackers & Sharon McCambridge-Ackers, Debbie Barraclough

  1. Minutes of the Meeting held on 11th January 2011 were approved as a correct record.

  1. Treasurers Report: - In the absence of John Ackers HL summarised the accounts for the year ending 31 December 2011.  Income totalled £5250.00, expenditure £245.85 leaving a balance of £8910.29.   There were no questions.

4. Friends of Romiley Park. The main achievement was the successful application for Green Flag status, which consolidated the Groups work with the Park & rec department over the last 5 years.

The Friends held the annual Easter Egg Hunt which saw a large number of local children come to the park to find the chocolate eggs hidden by our Easter Committee, to whom we thank for organising the day. There were some eggs left over and the Friends donated these to St.Chad’s for distribution.

Late spring and autumn saw the replanting of the front circle bed and we hope when in full bloom in 2012 we will have the opportunity to invite out sponsors of this project, Manchester Airport, to visit and see how their money has helped improve the park.

The parks and rec team also planted up the optician’s bed and all in all the front of the park is now looking more inviting and is a credit to the village.

The last Saturday in each month again saw the Friends turnout for task days whatever the weather, to maintain the parks improving appearance.

Big thanks to the Friends, Councillors and Andy Hodkinson and his team for all their hard work and support on these days and throughout a demanding year. I would like to take the opportunity to also thank Jill Lince who joined us this year and has made a big impact on the beds at the Stock

Dove entrance and who has added additional planting knowledge to the Group.

Unfortunately, despite excellent planning Mother Nature prevented the Christmas tree lights switch on in December. Thanks to all those though who helped organise this event.

After our success in completing phase one of upgrading the playarea, the Friends were fortunate to receive a further grant from Akzonobel, who contributed £5K, which has enabled us to establish a play area for younger children.

Six new trees bought by the Friends, which included a living Christmas tree, were planted. New bird and bat boxes were obtained and installed.

The long awaited bike rack has also been put in just outside the play area.

The lighting in the park is now all in good working order making the park feel more secure and more accessible to residents.

The Group has worked with the dog warden to highlight dog fouling and will continue to follow up these campaigns in 2012.

Regular reports from the community police have confirmed that there has been minimum anti social behavior in the park. Our work with them and SMBC to keep bushes reduced, installation of lighting, the new play equipment and regular good upkeep of the park, as well as community events have made the recreational area a well used and inviting place

to visit.

And finally, thanks need to be given to Alan Smith for his endless secretarial work on grant applications and minutes throughout the year and to John Ackers for his numerical skills in keeping our books in order and to The Life Centre for the use of this room and facilities throughout the year.

There were no questions.

5. Election of Officers

Treasurer – John Ackers was proposed, seconded and elected unanimously.

  1. There being no further business the Chair declared the meeting closed at 19.45.
